Dear EDNA Netball Community,
We hope this message finds you well and excited about the netball season. As an association, we believe it is crucial to address the importance of maintaining a positive and respectful environment for all participants, including spectators, coaches, and players. Our shared values and expectations serve as the foundation of our netball community, promoting fairness,
sportsmanship, and inclusivity.
Recent incidents have prompted us to reflect on our association's expectations and values. We must reinforce
our commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable environment that nurtures the love for netball and upholds our shared principles.
Spectator Behavior: We expect all spectators to exhibit good sportsmanship and respect towards all participants, including players, coaches, officials, and fellow spectators. Cheer on our teams with enthusiasm and support, but do so in a manner that upholds the spirit of fair play. Abusive language, aggressive behaviour, or any form of harassment will not be tolerated. Let us be known for our positive encouragement and respectful conduct, creating an atmosphere that inspires players to perform at their best.
Coaches: Coaches play a vital role in shaping our players' development and fostering their love for netball. We expect coaches to lead by example, exhibiting professionalism, integrity, and respect for all involved. Emphasize the importance of teamwork, discipline, and fair competition to your players, and create an environment that promotes growth and positive character development. Your guidance and mentorship have a lasting impact on our players, both on and off the court.
Players: Players are the heart and soul of our netball community, and we hold them to the highest standards of sportsmanship.
We expect our players to compete with passion and skill while treating opponents, teammates, coaches, and officials with respect. Displaying good sportsmanship and adhering to the rules of the game reflects positively on our association and contributes to personal growth and development. Let us prioritize camaraderie and fair play, ensuring that every game is a testament to our shared values.
We urge all members of the EDNA Netball community to familiarise themselves with our code of conduct and
embrace it wholeheartedly. Doing so will foster an environment that reflects our shared values, where individuals can thrive and the love for netball can flourish.
Together, let us create a netball community that sets the standard for excellence in sportsmanship, fair play, and respect. By upholding our association's expectations and values, we can ensure that EDNA Netball remains a place where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to a fantastic season ahead, filled with thrilling matches and memorable experiences.
Sincerely,
Naomi Wood
EDNA President
Well written however does this also apply to umpires onto players, they way they speak or their tone of voice and body language on the court? There have been some instances I have witnessed umpires roll eyes and passed judgement on players who are still learning the game. It is only fair it goes both ways.
