The first weekend of EDNA's Spring Netball competition is in the books, and what a start it was! From the vibrant energy on the courts to the exciting matches played, the opening round set the tone for a thrilling season ahead. Teams of all levels came together, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and passion for the game, and we couldn’t be prouder of the community effort that made it such a success.
Exciting Matches and Standout Performances
The courts were buzzing with action as teams faced off in their first games of the season. From closely fought battles to impressive victories, each match brought something special. New teams took to the courts alongside returning players, creating an exciting mix of fresh energy and seasoned talent.
A Growing Participation of Male Players
We are excited to see an increase in male participation across all age groups, adding a new dimension to our netball community. From juniors eager to learn the game to men stepping up in mixed teams, their enthusiasm and commitment are truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to witness netball becoming more inclusive and providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy this fantastic sport. The integration of more male players brings even more diversity and excitement to the games, further strengthening the competitive spirit of the season.
Welcoming New Teams and Experienced Players
We’re also thrilled to welcome 17 new teams to EDNA this season! With more players and teams joining our community, it's clear that netball is growing stronger than ever. It's wonderful to see both new and returning players enjoying the sport we all love, and we’re excited to see what the new teams bring to the competition.
In addition, we’ve noticed a rise in experienced female players stepping up to play across multiple clubs, bringing their expertise and leadership to different teams. Their presence is invaluable in guiding younger players and fostering a sense of mentorship across the league. It’s fantastic to see our seasoned players sharing their knowledge while continuing to challenge themselves and stay active in the competition.
Smooth Operations Thanks to Our Volunteers
A huge thank you goes out to our incredible volunteers, team managers, and scorers who ensured everything ran smoothly on game day. From marking attendance to keeping track of scores, their efforts played a crucial role in making the day a success. We also appreciate the team managers for keeping everything organised and ensuring players were ready for action.
And of course, a big shoutout to the umpires who kept the games flowing with their consistent and fair officiating. Please ensure that our umpires are supported and comments about umpiring are kept to yourself. Feedback can be given through the correct channels not from the sidelines.
Looking Ahead
With the first game behind us, there’s so much to look forward to this season! From the skills players will develop to the friendships formed on and off the court, the Spring competition promises to be a season filled with growth, fun, and friendly competition.
